Emergency CMU Repair After a Vehicle Struck a 7-Eleven Sign

A vehicle struck the freestanding 7-Eleven sign and shattered the CMU base holding it up. We ran an emergency response to stabilize the structure and make the site safe — securing the sign until a full base replacement is built.

The Call

A vehicle struck the freestanding 7-Eleven sign on a busy Central New Jersey commercial corridor and shattered the concrete-masonry base holding it up. With a tall, heavy sign now standing on a compromised foundation right at the edge of a public road and parking lot, this wasn't a job that could sit on a schedule — it was a safety hazard that needed to be made safe the same day.

We got the call for an emergency response. The priority was straightforward: stabilize the sign, eliminate the immediate danger to the public, and buy the time to plan and build a proper permanent fix.

The Damage

The impact had blown out a section of the CMU base — block shattered, fill spilling out, and a long structural crack running down through the adjacent wall. A sign structure like this relies on that masonry base to keep it plumb and anchored. Once the block fails, the whole assembly is one gust or one nudge away from a much worse outcome.

You can see it in the photos below: cracked block, exposed core fill, and the kind of fracture that tells you the base has lost its integrity and can't be trusted to hold load as-is.

The Emergency Repair

Our crew performed temporary repairs to secure the sign — stabilizing the damaged base, supporting the structure, and locking everything in place so the sign was no longer a hazard to drivers, pedestrians, or customers pulling in and out of the lot. The goal of an emergency repair isn't to make it pretty; it's to make it safe and stable, fast, so the property can keep operating while a full replacement is planned.

With the sign secured, the next phase is a full replacement of the base — proper demolition of the failed masonry, a new reinforced foundation, and a rebuilt CMU structure designed to carry the sign for the long haul. That's the permanent fix, and it's the right one. The temporary work just makes sure nothing bad happens in the meantime.

Emergency and Commercial Site Response

When a vehicle hits a structure, a base fails, or storm damage leaves something unsafe, the clock matters. We keep the heavy equipment and the crew to respond to commercial emergencies across Central New Jersey — make the site safe first, then come back with the permanent build. Running our own excavation, concrete, and masonry in-house means one call handles both the emergency stabilization and the full repair.

If your business has a damaged sign base, retaining wall, foundation, or any structural masonry problem, we handle demolition and rebuildsreach out or call (908) 670-7297 for a fast response.
